The ask

What they needed — in their own words

Pet parents should open the app, pick a service, and get a verified expert at their door. We need to onboard providers, check their credentials, take payments, and handle cancellations — and we can't have payments going wrong with real customers.
No technical vocabulary required — describing the problem precisely is our job, not the client’s.
What shipped

The system they run on today

  • Customer booking app with service discovery, slots, and ratings
  • Provider onboarding with document verification workflow
  • Payments, payouts, and cancellation handling that reconcile
  • Operations console for the PawPurrfect team
Inside the engagement

Arrived, assessed, hardened

Every Neolen engagement follows the same path: an honest assessment of what's actually there, then the hardening work that makes it a system. Here is how it played out on this one.

What arrived

A marketplace with real early traction and a payment flow wired for the happy path: single bookings, full refunds, no settlement edge cases. Fine for a demo — dangerous with real money moving.

What the assessment found

The assessment flagged one high-risk path immediately: partial refunds on multi-service bookings (say, grooming plus a vet visit) cancelled after one service had already been fulfilled. Nothing reconciled across the payment provider's settlement cycle, and every such booking would have ended in a manual dispute.

What we hardened and shipped

We built the split-settlement logic properly — refunding the unfulfilled service while keeping the fulfilled one payable to the provider — made every webhook idempotent, and verified the flow against the payment provider's sandbox before it touched a live transaction.

The outcome

What the client runs on today

PawPurrfect launched with bookings and payments working end to end, and the team runs daily operations from the console without an engineer on staff. Changes — new service categories, revised cancellation windows — are requests in plain language, not engineering projects.

Added to the playbook

Multi-service settlement became a standing entry in the audit harness: every marketplace app we assess now gets its refund paths checked against it automatically.

Neolen's team provided us with exceptional support for our business. Their quick response times and technical expertise made all the difference for us. Highly recommend!
